Details:
On the night of Feb 18 2014 I went out with a couple buddies in search of the aurora that was forecasted for just about everywhere north of the 40th parallel. We made our way to the Ellis Reservoir east of Penticton and each of us came away with some pretty amazing images and jaw dropping time lapse footage. The attached image is a frame grab from my timelapse of the aurora that spiked just after 1:00 am this morning. I've never seen the electrical discharge that creates viable ripples across the aurora until last light. During this spike of activity the sky had a visible red tint to the naked eye but I never imagined that the camera would pick up this much colour. Penticton, British Columbia. Shot with Canon EOS 7D with A Rokinon 8mm 10 Seconds at ISO 1,600 F/3.5 Equipment: Canon EOS 7D, Rokinon 8 MM, Vanguard Tripod and ball head.
