Details:
Mars was a gorgeous orange lantern lighting the prairie at opposition last night, and was particularly striking as its warm glow contrasted with the deepening blue twilight. A 10 second exposure with a Canon Rebel XTi and a 24 mm NIKKOR lens @ f/4 for the first image. The second image was a focus and aperture shift, with the exposure beginning focused on the telescope @ f/16 and an electronic flash, then the lens covered momentarily to refocus to infinity and open up the lens to f/3 for the remainder of the 10 second exposure at ISO 800.
