Aurora
Taken by Roy & Jodi McCullough on March 10, 2014 @ Auroral Spirits We were on an aurora tour with North Star Adventures of Yellowknife, Canada. Our driver had told the story of his childhood introduction to the aurora after his older sister had relayed the myths about the sprits associated with the ghostly figures in the sky. Upon seeing the aurora he was frightened enough it made his legs shake. We started the night battling clouds and moon glow from a 1st quarter moon. After much persistence and moving locations we had modest success and believing the aurora show had ended, started to head home. Suddenly the aurora began dancing and we wound up stopping alongside the road to view and take the accompanying images. We were particularly struck by the pair we have labeled Aurora Spirits and Ghostman, fitting our driver’s story. Aurora Spirits and Aurora Lace were taken with a Canon 5 D MarkII through a Rokinon 24 mm at f1.4 ISO 3200 1 second exposures. Ghostman and Yellowknife were taken with a Canon 5D Mark III through a Zeiss 21 mm at f 2.8 ISO 5000 for about 1 second.
