Meanwhile on the Sun, Sunspot AR 1990 (formerly AR 1944 and AR 1967) is making its third trip around the Sun. On February 25, 2014 it produced the largest CME flare of the year, As I was making these images, the effects of that flare gave a glancing blow to the Earth's magnetic field. If it had been a direct hit, electronic devices and communications could have been disrupted and damaged here on the Earth. fascinating, this long lived, and most energetic solar feature!
