BE MY VALENTINE This message goes out from the aurora enthusiast to their significant others (like my wife) who are doing their own thing while we’re out chasing the lights. Happy Valentine’s Day. Whenever I start to catch a chill while out aurora hunting I like to break out my multi-colored pinch light and do some light writing exercises. While facing the camera the trick is to write backward and right-to-left so the camera records the light etching properly. It would be easier to write normally, and then flip your image in post but you’d get busted because the star constellations would then be reversed! This is both a physical and mental exercise. Single exposure photo taken in the Alaska Range south of Delta Junction on February 17, 2013. I created it last year when I realized I’d missed Valentine’s Day, again, and thought I’d be prepared this year!
