An ultra-thin waxing crescent moon and the planet Venus set in the SW sky just after 5:00 PM CST as seen from Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Thursday, January 2, 2014. Air temperature was a frosty 3 degrees F. The -4.29 magnitude Venus is seen at right center, just above the tree line.
