Details:
Jupiter is approaching its opposition on 5th January 2014, so it is already visible for most of the night. Using this advantage of having long hours of visibility high in the sky, I acquired 30-second videos of Jupiter every 3.5 minutes from 01:26 to 04:22 local time (GMT+2) on 22.12.2013. In this time frame, Io completed its transit. I stacked data from all these 30-second videos to get still frames showing Io (and also its shadow) crossing the disk of Jupiter. This image is the result when all these still frames were aligned and put on top of each other. For the sake of keeping the details on Jupiter's disk, I used only one image of the disk with good looking features. The resulting image shows the whole pass of Io in front of Jupiter's disk. Effects of limb darkening can be followed, as Io looks brighter than the edges of Jupiter's disk, but darker than the central parts. Last, here is the link to the short video I made with all the still frames: http://www.astrofotografi.net/gallery/v/ugurikizler/gokyuzu/Gezegenler/Animation1_002.gif.html
