Details:
We observed the total solar eclipse from the Lake Turkana east shore. Only one hour before the first contact we decided to leave the optimal line (where the official site and most of the observers stayed) to a place that we spotted two days before the eclipse, south from the optimum line (still 8s corrected), and more than 100m above lake level. That was a very wise move, as a (sand) storm passed over the official site but avoided us! We saw the first contact, missed part of the partial phase, but a window opened in the clouds eight minutes before the totality that we could observe in a fantastic landscape, with storms at the horizon. The totality itself was absolutely stunning, with a red chromosphere ring in addition to the corona during all the totality time! We also observed numbers of Baily’s beads. Few minutes after the totality, the clouds covered again the sun, but we were lucky enough to see the eclipsed sunset.
