Details:
These were taken with a Nikon. I forget what type of camera it was specifically. Nonetheless, I got some pretty decent pictures. 14 seconds exposures. These pictures were taken at Yerkes Observatory on the night of a star party.

If your Nikon has screw threads around the lens, you can hook it up to any telescope using a t-mount adapter, and eyepiece projection adaptor. Will cost about 50 dollars for the parts, but should be great fun for you.

if there is no threading on your camera, you can use a piece of sheet metal, and bend it into a box shape to fit around your camera. Drill a hole in the sheet metal where the camera lens aligns to, draw a series of Xs on the metal to find its center. If you size the hole to the eyepiece projection T-adapter, it will thread onto the metal nicely as long as everything is flat.

eyepiece projection is also referred to as a-focal imaging

This is the kind of adapter you should be looking for to thread onto the camera, or project box.
