Details:
Animation from 5 consecutive 300 second exposures (in g band) of comet Lovejoy with the MAIA CCD camera attached to the 1.2 metre Mercator telescope. The second picture shows a combined version of the images from the animation, where each pixel was given the minimum value of the corresponding pixels from the separate images, removing the background stars (almost perfectly, as some artefacts are still visible).
