I am not sure is these are Aurora or Noctilucent clouds which are becoming lower & lower in latitude. I recent saw blue/green NLCs in Connecticut-confirmed by an astrophysicist. I am at 72° latitude. NLCs are becoming more common bc they are an affect of methane in our atmosphere which has increased significantly since the first recorded sightings if NLCs in late 1880s. That are moving into lower latitudes. Let me know what you think-the NKCs I saw were electric blue & green and then were hidden behind dark clouds, this was in front of the full Harvest Moon. IDK if auroras can occur in New York. Would love to discuss!

Ive my share of noctilucent clouds and those arent them, NLC are electric blue in color and appear at late dusk, its too bright to be airglow. it looks like you got the auroras, especially since that storm was so strong i could see them here in portland oregon so i would safely say you would probaby be able to see them in NY
