Details:
Rare sighting in the southern Adirondack Mountains of NY. I was late and exhausted from pulling a dock out of the lake, so I couldn't get up a mountain before dark. I pulled off at a log header in Lake Pleasant, NY and set the alarm for midnight. When I awoke, there it was! I haven't seen Aurora for decades, so this was a real treat. As I watched, the glow rose to 25-30 degrees above the horizon. I saw a few bursts of ribbon, and also scattered aurora due east, high up in the Seven Sisters. I went back in the sleeping bag at 2:30 when clouds rolled in.
