What a night! I had to quit as my neck was sore from looking straight up since 10:00 p.m. Central Time. This was an amazingly animated display with undulating ribbons, fantastic corona formations and shimmering curtains of light. It started off rather innocuously with a green saucer shaped blob of green light in the SW sky and then it just erupted. Photos taken with a Canon 5D MKII and a Canon 7D with an 8mm fisheye lens.

Ive never seen anything quite like like the first shot you post. This isnt just a suggestion of force fields being ripped apart above you (as amazing as as it would be to experience that one) but of being very much at the business end of something incredibly powerful.

That truly looks like a alien inside of a bubble if you study the picture you can figure it out
