Details:
This is a shot from a seaside local park/beach in Tromsø, northern Norway, last night (Telegrafbukta), when a surprise aurora, at times quite strong, appeared. This is far from the strongest aurora I captured, but out of all the shots, I liked the overall composition best in this particular shot. A strong moon from the left illuminated the park. Although weather reports were completely clear, it was actually quite cloudy. Still i managed to find 1 hour of opening in the clouds.

This work evokes a Zen koan referenced by the legendary Zen Master Dogen, the “Dragon Song”:

“Touzi was asked by a monk, ‘Is there a dragon singing in a decayed tree?’ Touzi replied, ‘I say there is a lion roaring in the skull.’”

Shobogenzo #65.
