I’d been sorting through some pictures I took of a setting sun on August 15, 2012. The sun was filtered by clouds, giving it that large red ball appearance; this is the only time I can photograph the sun. In a series of over 50 photographs, there is a dark spot that appears consistently in the same position on the sun. When I noticed it, I intentionally moved the camera to try to determine if it was the camera; the spot was still there. I framed the sun in a different part of the view finder; the spot was still there. The sun went through some light clouds as it set; the spot was still there. I stood at different positions of the window; the spot was still there. The first photos I took were at 7:07 PM CDT; the last at 7:23 PM. Photos were taken from a fourth floor apartment. A great Baader filter for your camera is only $5.00; go to www.dracoproductions.net for a 1.5 Baader filter for solar imaging anytime. Check out the photo of the Venus transit taken with a similar camera and filter from Hawaii in June 2012 on dracos website.
