It is an asteroid in the main belt that was discovered on September 2, 1980 by the American astronomer Edward L.G. Bowell at Anderson Mesa Station. It is named after the French astronomer Audouin Dollfus. The asteroid has a diameter of approximately 11 kilometers.

Edward L. G. "Ted" Bowell (1943-2023) was an American astronomer educated at Emanuel School London, University College London and Université de Paris.
He was principal scientist at the Lowell Observatory Near Earth Object Search (LONEOS). He discovered 571 asteroids, both as part of LONEOS and independently before LONEOS began.
He also discovered the periodic comet 140P/Bowell-Skiff and the non-periodic comet C/1980 E1
