I feel lucky to have been able to have seen both eclipses of the last eclipse season this year.
Just over 2 weeks ago I was in Spain to see the total solar eclipse and now, early this morning I got to see a deep (93%) partial lunar eclipse from home. I could have watched it from my window but decided to walk to a nearby park.
I was not interested in seeing the penumbral phase as it is barely noticeable, I used that time to have a little kip!
Set my alarm 10 minutes before the partial phase began but when I looked out my window the unwelcome sight of a sky blanketed by cloud greeted me. I still had hope though, some patches of cloud were quite thin and I could see the moon in those patches, also the cloud was blowing along at quite some speed and there was still over an hour and a half until maximum eclipse so I grabbed my gear and headed of to the park.
There was intermittent spells of patchy cloud cover and clear skies but as maximum eclipse approached the clouds blew over and it remained mostly clear until the moon set.
And, as a bonus, whilst I was chatting to a lady who was walking her dogs we both saw a fairly bright meteor, it must have been quite bright as they sky was turning blue and starting to get light.
