An Artic view of the 2026 12th August total solar eclipse with amazing views of the Greenland coast.
These images were taken from the cruise ship MS Ambition off the south west coast of Greenland at approx. N68° 24’, W26° 28’. Giving 2 min 18.1 seconds of totality.
Initially, there was thick cloud and strong gusty winds and hopes of seeing the eclipse at all were fading.
However, with 30 minutes to go the captain announced a re-position of the ship and headed towards the Greenland coast. As we approached the cloud started to thin and then we had clear blue sky. Unfortunately, the winds did not subside. I had to hold onto the camera equipment to ensure it stayed in place. Hence the images are a bit crazy with the ship movement etc.
Wide angle images show Jupiter and Mercury to the right of the Sun and Venus to the left. The three images show full eclipse (1/8 sec), the shadow approaching from the north (1/20 sec) and the shadow going south post eclipse (1/15). Canon 6D in AV mode, Rokinon 14mm, F4.0, ISO 400.
The prominence was hand held at 600mm, Panasonic FZ330, F8, ISO 100, 1/800 sec.
