Twice each year, in May and August, the setting Sun aligns perfectly with the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, creating one of the city's most photogenic celestial spectacles.
Following the annual ephemeris published by the Paris Observatory, a few hundred Parisians and well-informed tourists gathered along the center of the Champs-Élysées to witness the event. For several evenings, the Sunlight appeared to be funneled directly through a giant picture frame, briefly reminding everyone why the Champs-Élysées is often called "the most beautiful avenue in the world". It was a dazzling amuse-bouche and moment of communion before next week's even rarer display of celestial geometry.
