Details:
Comet 10P/Tempel (also called Tempel 2) on 07-23-2026 centered on 04:00 UT.
Here is my close-up of the 8.5 magnitude periodic Comet 10P/Tempel while it was cruising through the constellation Capricorn.
I'm tracking/stacking on the comet's nucleus, hence the trailing stars, this to helped to show the fainter tail in this 23 minute stack.
The bright trailed star at the lower right is the 8.11 Magnitude Variable star GCVS BQ Cap.
The faint fuzzy elongated stars that are just outside the lower outer Coma are the faint 15.67 mag(PGC 135281) background galaxy
and to the right is 16.39 mag(PGC 189209) galaxy.
10P/Tempel is a periodic comet with an orbital period of 5.4 years. It is coming up on Perihelion, August 2, 2026 at a distance of 1.4 AU.
It is currently visible in the night sky through binoculars or small telescopes as it reaches perihelion with the Sun on August 2, 2026.
The Comet makes its closest approach to Earth on August 3, 2026.
