It was discovered on September 29, 1973 by Cornelis Johannes van Houten, Ingrid van Houten-Groeneveld
and Tom Gehrels at the Palomar observatory in USA.
The asteroid is named after the Norwegian author Knut Hamsun.
Its size is approximately 4.9km.

influential literary stylists of the 20th century and is considered by many to be the originator of
