Details:
Here in southern NY state we got clouded in. Mostly. Right at 3:30 it cleared beautifully, so for 20 minutes we had a very nice opening to enjoy the show. I enjoyed sharing the view with 8 children and their teachers. Then, of course, the clouds rolled over just 30 seconds before disappearance! The clouds didn’t stay long, and while Venus was hidden behind the moon, it was gorgeously clear! I set up the telescope to be ready for Reappearance after 5:00. And again, of course, the clouds rolled in. The cloud began to rapidly develop right over us, and by 5:00PM it was dumping and I had to rush the entire setup inside. The sun tauntingly reappeared, but the rain refused to quit! By the time I rushed the scope back out, it was already 2 minutes after Reappearance. Although I missed the moment of disappearance and reappearance, Venus was close enough to the moon for a nice show. It was actually very beautiful and photos don’t do it justice. I can only imagine how spectacular it must be to actually watch Venus emerge from behind the moon’s limb. Photos taken with Pixel phone camera through the eyepiece of 8-inch Dobsonian scope.
