Details:
What an extraordinary sight we had tonight (June 16), even for the seasoned amateur astronomer that I am! 🌙✨ And tomorrow evening promises to be just as exceptional. The Moon will pass extremely close to Venus, so close that an actual occultation will be visible from the United States! If possible you should witness this beautiful and rare celestial show with your own eyes (a picture cannot render the dynamic!) 📅 Wednesday, June 17, 🕗 starting ~20 min after sunset and lasting a good half hour, Also bring binoculars (stabilized or on tripod) so that you can enjoy close-up views of each object individually. On the binoculars menu: 🔭 Venus, shining brilliantly like a dazzling beacon; 🔭 Jupiter, appearing as a tiny but perfectly sharp white disk; 🔭 Mercury, very small but remarkably steady, without twinkling; 🔭 Pollux and Castor, pinpoint stars sparkling enthusiastically; 🔭 The Moon, with its maria visible in the softly illuminated region lit by earthshine.
