Details:
On Wednesday 10th June, the close conjunction between Venus and Jupiter was again visible in clear sky above Mutare between 5.29 and 6.25. This was a day after the instant of closest approach which took place at 19.48 UTC (9.48 pm Local Time) the previous evening. The final x120 speed time-lapse animation of Venus and Jupiter with Mercury setting beneath in late volcanic sunset twilight on the 10th has been compiled from a sequence of 106 consecutive 4-second high-ISO exposures taken between 5.55 and 6.25 pm. Unfortunately, many of the images that have appeared on social media and some astronomy websites have either been contrived or manipulated to exaggerate both size and brightness of the planets. The accompanying material is as close as possible a true record of the recent conjunction and has only been subject to minimal application of ‘Spar Spikes Pro’ Filter where the planets would otherwise have been almost invisible due to volcanic sunset glare. Camera: Tripod-mounted Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 in sunset and manual exposure modes.
