Details:
Clear sky in Mutare during evening of June 9th provided good views of the close conjunction of Venus and Jupiter with Mercury setting in the vicinity of early and late volcanic sunset twilight arches near Transmitter Hill between 5.40 and 6.21 pm. Early on just Venus and Jupiter were visible but as the brightness of the volcanic sunset faded the Gemini Constellation stars Pollux and Castor appeared (to the right) with Mercury descending towards the southern shoulder of Transmitter Hill (below left). This is shown in the lead time-lapse animation produced from a sequence of 55 consecutive 4-second exposure still images. A final surprise was the appearance in four images taken in darkness of an upwards satellite transit to the right of Castor, Pollux and the planetary conjunction. Camera: Tripod-mounted Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 in sunset and manual exposure modes.
