Details:
Messier 86 (M86 or NGC4406) is a stunning elliptical or lenticular galaxy situated in the heart of the Virgo Cluster, approximately 52 million light-years from Earth. Discovered by Charles Messier in 1781, this massive galaxy is notable for its immense population of ancient, low-mass stars and an extensive system of globular clusters. Unlike most galaxies in the universe that are speeding away from us due to cosmic expansion, M86 is actually racing toward the Milky Way at an astonishing speed of over 200 kilometers per second—one of the highest blueshifts known.
