Details:
During a rare severe solar storm in January, I spent the night driving between Banff and Lake Louise chasing breaks in the clouds, hoping for even a small window of visibility. Just before sunrise, the sky finally opened and the aurora exploded overhead. For the next hour and a half, waves of green, magenta, and white light filled the entire valley above the frozen lake. It was one of the most surreal natural displays I’ve ever witnessed. The aurora was moving so quickly and intensely that the entire sky seemed alive.
