Details:
A few images from the evenings of May 10 and 11 MST from Tucson, Arizona in the Northern Hemisphere. On the evening of May 10 there was about a 12 minute window from the time twilight faded enough to image a 6th magnitude comet and until the comet set, the 2 images from the evening of May 10 show a 6x10 second stacked image just as twilight was starting to fade and then a 6x10 second stacked image 11 minutes later as the comet was getting ready to set in the orange twilight glow, one certainly notices the difference with the Orion Nebula but the comet was near the horizon and did not benefit from the darker skies due to the atmospheric haze, the skies were very clear on this evening. On the evening of May 11 the sky was very hazy with some clouds which hurt the visibility of the comet in this image.
Magnitude calculations on these 2 evenings had the comet at magnitude 6.1 and 5.9.
Yes, these images of the comet are not much to look at compared to the images we are now seeing from the Southern Hemisphere, but it is interesting what one can observe of a 6th magnitude comet at such low altitudes in evening twilight with modest equipment and no processing of the images beyond contrast/brightness adjustments.
