Details:
Fairly clear skies during the evening on Sunday 19th April, provided a good view of the 5% illuminated two-day-old Waxing Crescent Moon with Venus and the Pleiades star cluster setting near the southern shoulder of Transmitter Hill near Mutare. The young Moon first became visible above thin clouds in fading daylight to be joined by Venus at 5.52pm with the pair descending over an indistinct volcanic sunset twilight arch with pale broad radiating crepuscular rays. The latter quickly faded with the Moon and Venus continuing to descend in darkening twilight sky in which the Pleiades appeared just above the Moon a few minutes before both disappeared behind the summit of Transmitter Hill. This event was captured in a sequence of 50 consecutive four-second exposures which have been processed to produce a x40 speed time-lapse animation in which the conjunction sets behind the mountain in darkness (at 6.26 pm). Camera: Tripod-mounted Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 in manual exposure mode.
