Details:
Extreme processing to show max tail extension: I measured 32° !!! Moreover the tail is curved by the solar wind and show a blue color typical of ion emission. For sure the result is not aestetically perfect, but I really needed to dig in the data. I attach both the standard and starless versions.
I used a 50 mm lens with a Canon 6D, 3200 ISO, 13 s exp, capturing a timelapse. For this multi layer processing I used images from 1.54 UT to 3.07 UT, for a total of 315 shots that I summed in groups of 54 and 261.
Extremely exciting comet! After so many years without great comets, this was a pleasure, even if nothing to be compared to my reference "superstars" like Hale-Bopp or Hyakutake.
After weeks of terrible weather, I decided to go all-in on the morning of April 18th. I headed to the Alps at an altitude of nearly 2,000 meters and was lucky enough to experience an exceptionally dark night—far beyond local standards. I recorded an SQM of 21.82, a value almost comparable to the Namibian desert, likely thanks to the fog blanketing the lowlands.
