Details:
I almost gave up. High cirrus clouds and a long time for the substorm to build were the reasons for almost giving up last night. I am glad I did not. After 6 hours of waiting, at around 3:40 am EDST, the aurora finally started going when the geomagnetic storm reached G2. Lucky for me, the clouds mostly disappeared as well. The east flank of the auroral display showed purples at the top of the pink pillars. I am guessing this is because this part of the atmosphere started getting hit by the sun. What a wonderful show this has been. 42N, Nikon Z7, 24-70 f2.8 at 24mm, ISO 4000, 8 sec.
