Details:
Today Venus is in superior conjunction again, but this time it will not be occulted by the Sun as it was in June 2024, but will pass by.On January 4, 2026, at 11:18 UT, Venus was only 33' away from the edge of the Sun. I traveled to Tenerife to observe this event and wanted to set up my telescope at my regular observation spot near the Izana telescopes. Strong winds with speeds of up to 60 mph made this impossible, but I still managed to find Venus from the roof of my hotel using my tried-and-tested setup (95/560 Travel Companion with Baader Herschel prism and a homemade coronagraph). I used a ZWO290MM with an infrared filter as my camera.
