Details:
Daily positions of Earth on lunar sky at 00:00 GMT (UTC+1) during the year 2026.The Earth is visible in lunar sky always above horizon on the near side of the Moon. There the Earth reaches angular size of 2 degrees. Due to lunar optical libration, the Earth exhibits the same positional variations as libration in longitude and latitude. Libration in longitude alternates with anomalistic period, while librations in latitude change with the draconic period. The ratio of these periods is around 1.01:1. As a result, the Earth’s positions vary by two perpendicular oscilations with slightly different frequencies. Progress of Earth’s positions in lunar sky is known in physics as Lissajous curve.
