Details:
Comet C/2024 E1 (Wierzchos) has been slowly getting closer to the horizon over the past week after sunset. On the evening of December 10 UT managed to stack 4x10s good images when the comet was 3 degrees above a very clear bright evening twilight sky. Needless to say, with the comet only around magnitude 10 using a small refractor the images do not show much for features of the comet. The software used 17 stars to calculate a magnitude of 9.6 in an aperture diameter of 1', although with the comet so low to the horizon in such bright twilight I hesitate to suggest the comet is that bright since one week ago under darker evening twilight skies the comet was magnitude 10.7 using a stack of 18x10s images in an aperture diameter of 1.6', magnitude predictions for the comet suggest the comet should not have brightened at least a magnitude in the past week despite the software having no problem making its calculations, other observations would be needed to verify this increase in brightness. The calculations did confirm that indeed this is the comet from the RA/Dec positions calculated by the software. The image at the lower right compares the magnitudes of several stars near the comet.
