Details:
Taking advantage of last night's clear skies, I observed C/2025 K1 ATLAS, the small comet discovered last May and which recently reached its closest approach to Earth, over 60 million kilometers. After its perihelion passage in October, two weeks ago its nucleus began to break up into several pieces and reveal a more visible tail. I observed it with my 18-inch Dobsonian telescope at about 11pm and despite the presence of the Moon, it was surprisingly clearly visible in the 95x eyepiece. These single shots, taken with a Huawei P30 Pro at the eyepiece, clearly shows what I could see through the telescope: a small, evanescent tail about ten arc minutes long, brighter toward the nucleus. No parts of the nucleus detached from the main part could be distinguished even at 190x, but the brightest part appeared to be particular and seemed to draw the vertex of a perfectly pointed corner.
