From my Archives – November 20, 2003
22 years ago today… A severe geomagnetic storm of type G4. A top aurora of the 23rd solar cycle.
The trigger was a seemingly harmless M 4.5 flare (!). The Bz value was -60 nT (!) at 4 p.m., with a speed of around 550 km/s. At the time the photos were taken, the Bz value was still around -20 nT. The KP value reached 9+ (!), and the DST index was -422 nT.
PRAKTICA MTL 5B + 1.8/50 mm, 60s, KODAK negative film
