The colors of the Moon. What colors are on the Moon? Well, sometimes you can see the saturated images of the Moon showing different hues, colors, signs of the minerals at the surface. They are for real, but highly saturated in order to grasp the actual distribution of those different elements. I did that for quite some time, and had good correspondence with other amateurs, so I know that it is not hard to do. However, to try and get the colors of the dark side is a different matter, especially when the phase of the Moon is around the First Quarter, as I did on the image below. Guess what color is detectable on the dark side? BLUE!!! Why? Well, that part of the Moon is not directly illuminated by the Sun, but indirectly. The light hitting the atmosphere and water on our planet, reflects back to the Moon and gives the blue hue. This is one good proof that our planet is indeed a "little blue dot" in Space ;) Technical details: October 29, 2025. 115 mm APO refractor, F/7, ASI ZWO 533MC, 200 frames for the illuminated side, 150 frames for the dark side, all combined into an HDR image. Processing in Photoshop.
