Details:
The aurora were faintly pinkish along the northern horizon when I arrived in the countryside around midnight but within 15 minutes they intensified and spread higher in the sky, reaching nearly overhead with visible movement. There were clearly visible “spokes” of deeper red and also green embedded in them. It was so amazing that I called a relative and offered to take them to my viewing site a few miles north of Shelbyville, Indiana, but when we arrived back there an hour later the show was over and the moon had risen. Just a faint pink smudge was visible. So all in all a short but intense sky show. The best I’ve ever seen by far.
