Details:
We live about 50 miles west of Chicago. We missed the first major storm this year due to cloudy weather. Subsequent solar storms were again missed due to rain storms. I was following the spaceweather website after getting an email about the storm. What interested me was not its strength rather the news of how fast it was traveling so I thought I'd go look outside after a friend of mine had posted colors of a "solar curtain" not necessarily the "lights" themselves. As I walking outside, I saw what at first appeared to be a bright contrail, but within a few seconds, the tail started to expand brightly and put on a show. The joy I felt after seeing the lights in decades since I was a little boy overcame me and for a while I was that innocent little boy witnessing a miracle in the heavens!!!
