Details:
I happened to be outside photographing the stars as twilight deepened over Kent County, England on the evening of 25 August 2025. A column of shimmering white light began growing in the West-Southwest and I first wondered if was the start of an Aurora beam? Then the soft-bright-white beam grew to “full length” and began to move like a satellite on an orbital path. Since my camera was mounted on a Newtonian Telescope I had to swing the scope around to get a picture of the “White-Beam”. I thought it must be the Chinese Rocket’s fuel dump, but needed to have it confirmed today by Space Weather’s Answer: The Chang Zheng 8A. Notice the Constellations of Hercules and the Northern Crown in the images taken facing West-Southwest. As the orbiting white beam moved overhead I took two more photos with long-exposure times that show the movement of the stars.
