Details:
While flying the Dreamliner from Calgary to Rome Italy on July 30th, the Sun was starting to set as we flew north towards the Hudson Bay at 37,000 feet. Shortly after the sun went down, the sky lit up in two different directions! In front of us, to the East, we could see the Aurora light up the sky. And to the North we saw a nice dazzling display of Noctilucent clouds. A rare combo to be seen from an aircraft. We just happened to be lucky enough to be in the right "Butter Zone" at this time of the year to witness both phenomena at the same time. I was not expecting to see any Aurora on this flight due to the summer season, however everything happened to go in my favor. Being an airline pilot definitely offers the best office view!
