Details:
I was eager to see just how bright the aurora might become from the recent CME and set my camera set up before dark. The aurora began a little after dusk with vertical structures rising from the southern horizon. Soon after, red and green colors painted the night sky and hue of horizontal green band appeared high above the sky maneuvering from the west to the east. I was thrilled at how clearly the red and green colours were visible to the naked eye. As time past, the red aurora reached the sky up above us. It was so strong even the clouds to the north, beyond the reach of aurora were brushed in red with the reflecting light. I had people from overseas visiting during the night and happy they came. They stood beside me, excited at the spectacle show above Aoraki Mount Cook national park
in the heart of New Zealand’s Dark Sky Reserve. A perfect stage for such a cosmic show and a joyful memory to take home. Canon R6 ISO6400 4s shutter speed priority, Sigma 20mm
