Details:
Just in case C/2024 G3 (ATLAS) still had some leftovers up here at 35°N—like McNaught did 18 years ago—I set up north of Flagstaff, Arizona, tonight to see if any fringes might show up. The ugly, extremely stretched image attached shows hints of that tail emerging from the left side of the taller cinder cone. It's mixed with a bunch of horizontal air glow bands. I need to rework this one more carefully to try reducing a bunch of defects (walking noise that looks like fine scale diagonal stria, and better manage background extraction & including a proper flat field).
To be clear, some, if not all of the fine scale diagonal structure is likely to be walking noise, not stria. Hopefully better clarity on that later if I can refine the processing further.
