With the sky 87% cloudy, I took more than 80 photos of the southwestern horizon over the sea, close to where the sun had set just 25 minutes earlier. In one of them, it appeared. The photo was taken with a Nikon CoolPix P900 camera at ISO 100, 1/20s, f/6.3 and 5x magnification. The comet was only 5° above the horizon and 12° away from the Sun. Its brightness was consistent with estimates at that time - mag=-1. The first image (corresponding to a 40x magnification) is an enlarged crop of the original photo, which is presented as the third image. In the second image, an idea is given of where exactly the comet was within the visual field covered by the third image.
