Details:
Here is a picture of the SAR arc with what I believe is proton aurora on the horizon - the greenish glow in the lower right corner. These two hung in there without any movement and minimal morphing right after sunset till midnight. The green glow was easily visible to an unaided eye while the SAR arc appeared only in pictures. The view is directly east. In the center of the image, you can see Castor and Pollux from Gemini, Mars and the Beehive Cluster below them, Orion on the right. The spaceweather parameters were abysmal when I took this shot: Bz +5, HPI 13GW. I understand the SAR arc and proton aurora are often seen together. What I learned that night was that these ring-current related phenomena can be seen even without any hints of auroral activity in sight if the geomagnetic storm is still active. Not the greatest image but well worth the drive in blizzard to get rid of the clouds. The US northeast ended up on the short end for this storm.
Nikon Z7, 14-30mm f4 at 19mm and f4, 15 sec, ISO 2000.
