Details:
January 1 after a dusting of snow and temps dipping into the teens, began photographing just after sunset and noticed a persistent dark band appearing in the same region looking north. Clouds were pretty heavy by 11 PM so I caught some z's and tried it again from around 4 AM through sunrise. That dark band persisted in the morning shots, but clouds had lessened, revealing a reddish purple aurora looking north. Regarding other colors along the horizon, I'm not sure if they were aurora activity or from neighboring lights. For the morning sho(5:16am) a NikonZ6 was used with a 14-30mm lens at 18mm, f4 for 15 seconds at ISO 1600. The evening shot (10:34pm) was with the 24-200 at 24mm f4 13 seconds ISO 1600.
