Details:
Around 6 p.m. (Italian time) on January 1, 2025, a solar particle emission interacted with the Earth's atmosphere, generating intense auroral activity. This phenomenon made a faint SAR (Stable Auroral Red) visible even from Italy, with a few minutes of proper red aurora. This image captures just the latter event, over the lights of the Po Valley. The most prominent groups of lights are Scandiano (left) and Casalgrande (right).
Technical data: Single 10-second shot, f/2.8, ISO 3200, taken with a Canon EOS 6D and a Samyang 14 mm lens.
