Details:
The Moon bids farewell to its last full phase of 2024. In this image it has already left its perfect disk and is combined with the first light of dawn, as it seeks to hide towards the west. While in the northern hemisphere this Moon transits cold skies, here, in the southern hemisphere, it does so in a warm sky a few days before summer.
But the Moon is not the only thing that can be seen in this modest image. Below the Moon, you can see a belt of color between orange and pink, called the belt of Venus. According to mythology, the goddess of beauty, Venus, wears this belt that grants grace and love. The effect is produced by the first rays of the Sun (or the last, if it is dusk). The orange light of the Sun, very soft at that time due to dispersion (backscattering) in the atmosphere, mixes with the blue, giving the orange and pink hue. It can be seen between 10° and 20° above the horizon.
Between the belt of Venus and the horizon, the sky is dark blue with a strong gray hue. This is the Earth's shadow. That is, the shadow that our planet projects on the atmosphere in the opposite direction to the Sun's sunrise (or sunset).
Can you see these effects in the photo?
During the warm months, look for these lights and shadows in clear skies. I guarantee that knowing what you are looking at makes for an amazing experience.
