Details:
We live 110 km north of the Arctic Circle in Finland, pretty much right under the Aurora Oval. I was in my regular Aurora hunting spot, some 300 m from our home. From the western horizon rose a big Aurora. I have seen tens of them on that spot, rising from the west. But this one was different, because it missed a piece in the middle. To make matters worse, the ”missing piece” looked like a Stalo, a myth of the Sámi culture, a very unpleasant figure. I have >10000 Aurora photos from Scandinavia, but this is one of a kind. When this figure appeared in front of me I was scared for quite some time, believe me, about what’s going on, and will I be attacked. I was alone in a totally dark wilderness. The missing piece on the middle, the ”figure”, could it be Black Aurora? In any case, this photo is unique in my collection of Aurora photos, as well as the feelings while looking at the ”figure” were.
