Details:
This is a panorama of a particularly colourful aurora in the early evening on November 9, 2024, taken at sea during a coastal cruise in Norway on the m/s Nordkapp, a ship in the Hurtigruten fleet of ferries and cruise ships. This is looking south from the stern deck of the ship, on a night with a Kp5 level aurora putting it more south and overhead than normal. We were north of Trondheim, Norway, but south of Rorvik, so not yet above the Arctic Circle. This night the Lights appeared early, about 6 pm. The waxing quarter Moon is low in the sky amid clouds. Technical: This is a panorama of 8 segments, each 1-second exposures (short to minimize trailing from ship motion) with the Nikkor 20mm lens wide open at f/1.8 and Nikon Z6III at ISO 3200.
